1.5 lakh voters’ names deleted

GULBARGA: The election authorities deleted the names of 1,48,164 ineligible voters from the electoral list prepared earlier and added 54,473 voters and published the final list of voters in the district’s 13 Assembly constituencies on Monday.

According to the new draft roll, there are 24,30,726 voters (12,16,569 male and 12,14,157 female) in the district.

Of the 1,48,164 voters whose names were deleted, 65,400 had died, and 1,08,880 voters had shifted to other addresses. As many as 22,054 names were found to be on the rolls in more than one constituency).

Jewargi Assembly constituency topped the list with 18,376 voters’ names being deleted, followed by Gulbarga city Assembly constituency (17,443), Afzalpur (14,021), Sedam (13,914), Shahapur (11957), Yadgir (11827), Sahahabad (11841), Aland (9531), Gurmitkal (8770), Surpur (8410), Chincholi (8270), Kamalapur (7786), and Chitapur (6018).

Women outnumber men in eight of the 13 Assembly constituencies in the district. The women-dominated Assembly constituencies are Shahabad, Chitapur, Sedam, Jewargi, Gurmitkal, Yadgir, Shahapur and Surpur. According to the published draft electoral roll, the number of eligible voters constituency-wise are as follows: Gulbarga city - 3,11,588, Shahabad - 2,48,602, Surpur - 2,21,168, Shahapur - 2,01,784, Jewargi - 2,00,259, Afzalpur - 1,76,221, Yadgir - 1,64,755, Gurmitkal - 1,49,906, Chitapur - 1,45,015, Aland - Chincholi - 1,52,776, Kamalapur - 1,51,092 and Sedam - 1,52,946.
