A chance for students to come out with innovative solutions

Issues of water, energy will be discussed at the programme

TIRUPATTUR: Sri Nandhanam College of Engineering and Technology, Tirupattur, has decided to organise a programme, “my idea programme,” which will give an opportunity for the students to innovatively think on issues relating to water and energy. The programme will be held on February 9.

E.Vidyasagaran, Senior Scientist of the college, told The Hindu that the students would raise problems pertaining to water and energy. At the same time the students would also be required to provide feasible solution to the problem.

The programme to be organised on the college campus was a joint venture of Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras, Rural Innovations Network, Chennai and Technology Business Incubator of Vellore Institute of Technology University (VITU). It would be a one-day programme.

Mr.Vidyasagaran said for the first time, 20 students have been selected for project work at the Solar Energy Centre of the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy. The 20 students were to leave for New Delhi for the project work. The students have been selected based on their academic performance.

He said the college had commenced the free computer training programme for the 25 members of Self-Help Groups and their dependents in and around Tirupattur. The computer training course was for three weeks. The members were being given training in Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word and Power Point. The college had provided free training material. In addition, free transport has been provided from the Sub Collector’s office to the College. He said Humanities and Sciences Association, “ECLAT’08” attached to the Department of Humanities and “Electra sparks,” an association for students of Electronics and Communication Engineering was inaugurated recently.
