BANGALORE: The Karnataka High Court on Monday adjourned to February a public interest litigation (PIL) petition by two residents of Bangalore seeking a direction to the State and the authorities to monitor and regulate strikes, bandhs and processions. The petitioners, Krishna Bhat and A.V. Amarnathan, had approached the court highlighting the difficulties faced by residents when political parties and organisations organised protests and strikes. They said when processions were taken out on the roads, they disrupted life and caused traffic hold-ups. StatementThe court had asked the State to file its counter and the Principal Secretary of the Department of Home, Vatsala Watsa, had filed a statement saying that the State favoured holding rallies and protests in a single place and that it did not want the people to be inconvenienced. A Division Bench comprising Justice S.R. Bannurmath and Justice Jawed Rahim adjourned the case for final hearing on February 13.
