BDFA XI loses

Mandya: The Bangalore District FA XI lost 3-4 in the tiebreaker to Shimoga as the football events got underway at the PET College grounds here on the opening day of the State Games on Monday. The Games are being revived after four years thanks to the initiative of the Department of Youth Services and Sports, and the Karnataka Olympic Association at Mandya and Mysore. The events in Mysore will commence on Tuesday.

BDFA, the reigning inter-district champion, was down against a determined Shimoga when Magesh Babu clipped into his own goal in the ninth minute. It was only in the last minute of regulation time that BDFA managed to equalise through Nanda Kumar. In the tiebreaker, Khalandhar, Sameer and Sunil netted for Shimoga while Goviar’s attempt was saved. Magesh Babu and B. Prakash were on target for BDFA XI.

In another match Mandya downed Kodagu 3-2. Srinath (2nd), Girish (3rd) and Bharath (22nd) scored for the host while Hemanth Kumar and Dinesh struck for Kodagu.

At the Sir M. Vishweshwaraiah Stadium volleyball courts, State champion Karnataka State Police began its quest to add the State Games title with an emphatic 25-16, 25-20, 25-20 win over a youthful but error prone Sports Hostel, Bangalore.

In the netball event at the PET courts, State champion Rajajinagar Sports Association’s women routed Vasavi Vidyanikethan 37-8.

The results: Netball: Men: Rangers SC bt Seshadripuram 24-13; Korategere SC, Tumkur, bt Kolar 17-16; SOI bt Mangalore 36-18; RSA bt Dharwad 26-25. Women: Maharani Arts bt MLA First Grade 28-27; MLI College bt Tumkur 30-14; RSA bt Vasavi Vidyaniketan 37-8; Silver Star bt Maharani Science 29-15.

Volleyball: Men: KSP bt Sports Hostel, Bangalore, 25-16, 25-20, 25-20; BSNL bt SWR, Hubli, 25-23, 25-22, 16-25, 28-26.

Tennis: Men: pre-quarterfinals: Suraj bt Yatish 6-3, 6-1; Santosh bt S.M. Sachin 6-4, 6-1; Yuvraj bt K.S. Pramod 6-1, 6-1; Kamal bt Shahul 7-5, 7-5; Yash bt Karan 6-3, 7-6(6); Rashien Samuel bt Poojith 6-1, 6-1; Pranav Anand bt Kumar 6-0, 7-6(5). Women: quarterfinals: Ritu bt Ujjwal Mandya 6-1, 6-0; Chirasanthi Mysore bt Pooja 6-0, 6-0; Akansha Kohli bt Rajini 6-0, 6-0.

Kho-kho: Women: Spurthi SC Mysore bt Young Pioneers, Bangalore, by an innings and 4 points.
