PUDUKOTTAI: The joy of the differently-abled persons knew no bounds when they were honoured in recognition of their achievements at a function sponsored jointly by the Rotary Club of Pudukottai Midtown and the Inner-Wheel Club of Pudukottai to mark the observance of the ‘International Day for Persons with Disability.’

Those honoured were a couple of students of TELC Higher Secondary School here, Mohammed Shah Jehan of Standard XI and Sheik Abdullah of Standard VII, who have been excelling in their academic achievement; Ramasamy who has been leading a descent life by running a photostat unit and STD booth in the town; Dilip Kumar an employee of the Taluk office in Pudukottai and Kamalakannan, a teacher of Ponnamaravathy, near here.

The District Revenue Officer G. Prakasam, who honoured them with a prize, said that the disabled persons needed only empathy and not sympathy. The differently-abled persons fully utilised their talents, indicating their self-confidence and desire for achieving excellence.

The president of Rotary Club of Pudukottai Midtown V. N. A special free health camp was held to benefit the inmates of ‘Renaissance’, a home for the mentally-ill at Keeranur near Pudukottai.

The president of Inner-Wheel Club of Pudukottai, Anuradha Srinivasan, said that the Rotary Club of Mid-Town and the Inner-Wheel Club of Pudukottai would take steps for early detection of tuberculosis in the district.

A year-long survey would be conducted from March.
