Bangalore/Davangere: The State Government has announced a reward of Rs. 50,000 each to the three police personnel attached to Honnali police station in Davangere district whose presence of mind landed suspected terrorists Asadullah and Riyazuddin Nasir in the police net. P.K.H. Tharakan, adviser to Governor and in charge of the Home Department, has appreciated the good work done by K.S. Talwar and A. Murgesh (police constables) and A.K. Chandrappa (head police constable) and announced the cash rewards, according to Director-General and Inspector-General of Police K.R. Srinivasan. Apart from two policemen, the judicial officer of Honnali JMFC also played a crucial role in suspecting the hand of the two accused in terror activities. When brought before him, the judge suspected that the two fast-talking and well-informed “vehicle thieves” had a lot more up their sleeves. When Riyazuddin Nasir and Asadullah were produced before the magistrate they started complaining to the judge about how the police had harassed them and pleaded that action be initiated against them for violation of their human rights. The way in which Nasir argued his case and his repeated references to human rights, led the judge to suspect the background of the two. The judge, wonderstruck by their clever arguments and legal knowledge, smelt something fishy about the glib “motorcycle thieves.” He handed over the two to police custody with instructions to conduct a thorough interrogation of them. A few days after this, the judge at a public function, to which he was invited as a special guest at Honnali, said that it was unfortunate that the police were treating suspected terrorists as vehicle thieves. This prompted the police to conduct further investigations which ultimately led them to certain startling facts. Police teams were sent to Hyderabad, where they uncovered the background of Nasir, and the fact that his father was a suspect in the murder of the former Home Minister of Gujarat Haren Pandya. Nasir, who initially claimed to be Asadulla’s cook, has vast legal knowledge and is stated to be trained not to buckle under pressure. CoD remandMeanwhile, Nasir and Asadullah were produced in the Honnali court on Monday, seeking permission that they be handed over to the CoD police. The court approved the request and remanded the accused in custody till February 9.
