ARIYALUR: The Collector, V. M. Xavier Chrisso Nayagam, has directed revenue officials implementing social protection schemes, to prepare a list of the senior citizens eligible for old age pension residing in the villages that fall in their limits. Based on the list, it has been planned to sanction pension to about 1,000 eligible beneficiaries in the first phase shortly, he said while speaking at a public grievances day meeting held here on Monday. The Collector said that free tea will be distributed to the people coming to present petitions seeking old age pension at the public grievances day meetings. A group of volunteers have come forward to sponsor the tea to the pension seekers. Arrangement has been made to set a tea stall by a self-help group for the benefit of the people visiting the Collectorate on the grievances day. A total of 395 petitions seeking, among other things, education grant, old age pension were received at the meeting. The Collector handed over loans to the tune of Rs.40,000 each, including the government subsidy of Rs.10,000, sanctioned by the Indian Overseas Bank, to four women SHGs. The Revenue Divisional Officer K. Anbarasu; the Senior manager of the Indian Overseas Bank, Subbarayalu; and the Lead Bank Manager, G. Nagalingam were present.
