Mukteswar dance fest

BHUBANESWAR: With the famous arch of the Mukteswar temple forming its backdrop, the third annual Mukteswar dance festival will begin in the city from February 17 to 19. The sprawling green lawns in between the Mukteswar and Parsurameswar temple complexes will host the three-day event.

The festival is being organised by the Department of Tourism as part of Ekamra Utsav that is aimed at promoting Bhubaneswar as a major destination for cultural tourism. It will be an exclusively Odissi dance festival unlike the other festivals being organised by the department. It would feature solo, duet and group presentations.

The inaugural evening will feature solo show by Madhubrata Satapathy of Rourkela followed by a duet by male dancer duo Rahul Acharya and Debasis Patnaik and group performance by Suravi Odissi dance institute.

The second evening will commence with Mumbai-based Leesa Mohanty who hails from Bhubaneswar. It will be followed by a performance by physically challenged dancer Nityananda Das of Kalashram and conclude with group show by Cuttack-based Odissi Nrutya Mandal. Noted dancer Meera Das of Cuttack would perform as a soloists on the concluding evening while the brilliant male dancer duo Lingaraj Pradhan and Amulya Balabantray of Rudrakshya troupe would follow with duet. Kolkata-based Dona Ganguly, wife of cricketer Sourav Ganguly will present group performance on the occasion. Dance performances of each evening would be preceded by singing that will be presented by Bijay Jena, Sumanta Mohan and Santilata Chhotray respectively.
