Accident in pharma unit not due to reactor blast
Staff Reporter
Sangareddy: Deputy Chief Inspector of Factories P.M. Chandramohan, Hyderbad, who inspected the C block of Arch Pharma Limited’s Gundlamachnoor unit on Sunday night told The Hindu on Monday that the accident in which two persons were injured was not result due to a blast in the reactor.
Mr. Chandramohan pointed out that CMIC chloride, which was sent from the reactor to the centrifuge, accidentally came out through a loose bottom valve.
The chemical which fell from the pipe caught fire immediately after it came into contact with the outside atmosphere.
He appreciated the pharma unit staff for using foam and sand in controlling the fire.
Regretting the lathicharge by the police to disperse the relatives of the workers and the local villagers, Chandramohan said that they were kept away from the accident site as the threat from the flared up chemicals could not be undermined.
