Bhagavantu was involved in more than 90 offences Maoist arrested with out any blood being shed
Prize catch: Superintendent of Police Charu Sinha and Officer on Special Duty Rajesh Kumar producing CPI Maoist leader Bhagavanthu, who was arrested on Monday, in Mahabubnagar. MAHABUBNAGAR: In a major breakthrough, the Mahabubnagar police has arrested Thummala Bhagavantu alias Narsimha (35), Kalwakurthy dalam commander in the district and area committee member of CPI (Maoists) at Vemulapaya in Nallamala forest under Lingala police station in the small hours of Monday. The police recovered one .303 rifle with 55 live rounds and an amount of Rs. 20,000 cash from his possession. With the arrest of Bhagavantu, the district police were able to wipe out all the UG cadre (underground) of CPI (Maoists) in the district, according to police officials. Superintendent of Police Charu Sinha said that Bhagavantu, who was involved in more than 90 offences including nine murders, was arrested by a team of police led by Circle Inspector of Achempet Majid and SI of Kollapur Venkateshwarlu while he was moving on a hillock on the banks of river Krishna in deep Nallamala forest near Vemulapaya village after encircling the hillock. She said that the police party was able to locate him through the signals of his cell phone calls. She addressed a press conference here on Monday where the arrested Maoists leader was produced. OSD Rajesh Kumar, Majid, Sub Inspectors of Kollapur and Uppununthal Venkeshwarlu and Rama Krishna respectively and others were also present. The SP appreciated the police officers for their “good work” in arresting the Maoists leader with out any blood shed. She informed that the sympathizers of Maoists would be watched closely.Charu Sinha exhorted other under ground cadre working in other parts of the State to surrender and lead a peaceful life. She said that when their central committee member Papi Reddy and other big leaders have surrendered there is no meaning in continuing with their underground activities.
