The BE/BTech results of Anna University were published on January 26, 2008. But to the consternation of parents and students alike, results of a few colleges was merely marked “WH9.” On enquiry, it was learnt that this happened due to belated submission of internal marks by the colleges. The university should have completed all work before the publication of results. The result was published on Monday noon. As the result is the “be all and end all” of life, authorities should take publication of results seriously. Withholding of timely publication of results will worry the student community . It is requested that the publication of results of professional colleges should not be withheld. V. Kumar,
Thekkurichy Shift post office to new buildingThough it is now more than six months since the construction of the new building for Thoothukudi head post office on Thoothukudi-Tiruchendur Road opposite to Kamraj College has been completed, the post office continues to function in a rented building on V.E.Road. The objective for which the new building has been built, spending several lakhs of rupees, has not been fulfilled. Will the postal authorities look into the matter? Sivanthai M.Murugan, Thoothukudi. Speed Post not attractiveA month ago, Union Minister for Communication and Information Technology indicated his intention to regulate the services of private couriers. Moreover, the real solution lies with the government to make Speed Post attractive. The Speed Post services are cost-effective but not attractive. The Speed Post costs a customer a mere Rs.25 for destinations in Gujarat or Maharashtra whereas prominent couriers charge over Rs. 50 for the same letter. The postal authorities must think why people are preferring couriers to Speed Post. If the letters sent through the couriers reach the destinations the next day, Speed Post takes four or five days . People are inclined to prefer quick service. Remedial action is needed in this regard and regularisation of services and charges of private couriers are a must. N.Kasilingam, Tuticorin. Lorries that spill In Tuticorin, heavy-vehicles such as lorries and tippers are not following road rules. Most city-based heavy vehicles are being used for transporting materials such as sand, salt and chemicals. There are instances in which lorries and tippers carry sand and other hazardous chemicals without any cover. This poses a threat to the lives of motorists. Recently, a lorry skidded off the road after running over spilt chemicals . The authorities should maintain vigil over all heavy vehiclesto ensure road-safety. P. S. Saravana Durai, Tuticorin. Speed-breakers neededMeignanapuram village in Tuticorin district is located on Tiruchendur-Nagercoil State Highway. The village has a post-office, commercial bank, co-operative bank, girls’ higher secondary school, a girls’ primary school, a boys’ middle school and a pre-primary school near the highway. Around 600 students are daily crossing the highway to reach their school. Senior citizens are also crossing this road to avail of postal and bank services. Four drinking water taps on the roadside are daily used by the public to take water. Every day, at 20-minute intervals, State-owned buses from Nagercoil are passing through this road to Tiruchendur apart from a lot of two wheelers, lorries and other vehicles. I request the authorities to create speed-breakers to avert road accidents. Dr.T.Vijayakumar, Tuticorin
