It resents alleged derogatory depiction of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose
Members of All India Democratic Students Organsation protesting against some portions of a college textbook in Berhampur on Monday. BERHAMPUR: Activists of the Democratic Students Organisation (DSO) held a demonstration in the city on Monday against alleged derogatory depiction of character of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose in a history textbook printed by a private publisher. This history textbook has been published for +3 degree courses. The president of the local unit of the DSO, Abani Kumar Gaya said the writers of the book had depicted Netaji as an unruly and undisciplined youth due to which he had to be expelled from Presidency College. Mr Gaya said the writers seemed to be ignorant of the fact that this great leader was expelled from college for his protest against anti-India remark by a professor. The student activists made rounds of schools and colleges of the city for a signature drive demanding strict action against the publisher and writers who had allowed such grave derogatory remarks against a great leader. In the evening they organised a public meeting at old bus stand. They also burnt down an effigy of the book. The DSO activists also wanted strict action against a co-author of the book. The other author of the book, Jagannath Mohanty is already dead. They also wanted action against the publisher and asked the State Government to constitute a committee to scrutinize textbooks before their publication.
