CUTTACK: The city police on Monday arrested ‘gangster’ Sk. Suleman and five of his associates from a busy marketplace in the evening. Police seized one US-made revolver, two rounds of bullets, five cell phones and the Bolero jeep in which they were travelling. The gang, all from neighboring Kendrapara district had come to the city in a tender-fixing related matter and were planning to create disturbances over a tender in irrigation department of Mahanadi division, police said. City DCP S K Priyadarshi and two inspectors—Ravi Satapathy and P K Rath arrested the gang including Suleman near Mata Math of the city around 5 pm, sources said. Police, however, refused to divulge details. Suleman was wanted in at least 16 cases of murder, extortion, robbery in Kendrapada and Jagatsinghpur districts. Tito, Hyder and Suleman, all from Kendrapada district, were allegedly involved in many tender-fixing cases in the coastal area and in extortion activities. Tito and Hyder are now serving jail term.
