Desist from damaging party’s image: APYC

Senior leaders cautioned against more incidents like the one at Jogaiah residence

HYDERABAD: The Andhra Pradesh Youth Congress (APYC) has cautioned senior Congress leaders against damaging the party and government’s reputation by their open criticism.

Youth Congress president T.J.R. Sudhakar Babu said that more incidents like the one at the residence of Congress MP Ch. Harirama Jogaiah might take place if they persisted with their criticism. “Leaders like Mr. Jogaiah will have to pay the price if they did not mend their ways,” he said.

Replying to queries at a press conference here, he, however, maintained that it was an advice to the seniors and not a warning.

“We have every right to question people who secured their positions with the help of the party and its workers,” he averred.

Refuting Mr. Jogaiah’s charge that an attempt was made on his life, he said the youth, angered by his statements, broke the window panes and flowerpots, but did not try to physically harm him. He was critical of a section of intellectuals who were supporting Mr. Jogaiah claiming that they should first understand the motives behind his comments.

Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee secretary G. Niranjan, however, opposed Mr. Sudhakar Babu’s claims on “more incidents” and said such attacks would damage the party’s reputation. At the same time, he wanted the government to order a comprehensive probe into Mr. Jogaiah’s charges as they were bound to attract public attention.

Detailed report

Meanwhile, APCC in-charge president G.S. Rao, who was asked to come to New Delhi by the Congress leadership, gave a detailed report to AICC general secretary Veerappa Moily on the charges levelled by Mr. Jogaiah. He is learnt to have asked the party high command to take appropriate action against Mr. Jogaiah who was an AICC member.
