Ensure security for north Indians: Mayawati
Special Correspondent
LUCKNOW: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati on Monday condemned the acts of violence in Maharashtra against people of north India and demanded that the United Progressive Alliance government ensure security for north Indians and take strict action against the perpetrators.
She assailed the Maharashtra government for failing to act against the culprits.
Without naming the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena and its leader Raj Thackeray, Ms. Mayawati said the violence violated the basic spirit of the Constitution, which allowed the citizens to earn their livelihood anywhere in the country.
North Indians could not be turned out on the ground that Maharashtra belonged to Maharashtrians, the Chief Minister said.
