NEW DELHI: Power generation in the Capital climbed down on Monday due to outages at three of the power generation plants. While the city fell short of about 318 MW, Power Department officials maintained that the total demand for power was met. The Rajghat plant, which generates 135 MW daily, produced 54 MW because of repair work being carried out, while generation at the Indraprastha power station and Gas Turbine was affected by a boiler leakage and shortage in supply of gas. While the Indraprastha plant generated 88 MW of power, Gas Turbine produced 81 MW as against the 289 MW installed capacity. Residents of some areas of East Delhi, South-West Delhi and North Delhi, however, complained of frequent power cuts. “In Rohini there have been recurrent power cuts for the past few days. And these power cuts last for a couple of hours several times in a day,” said Sanjay Mehra, a resident of Sector 13 Rohini. Power Department officials, however, claim that the discoms resort to power cuts in theft prone areas to prevent grid collapse. “This winter we had a projected demand of 3,500 MW, which we touched on certain days and were able to meet with some outages because of low frequency. There has been no problem in meeting the demand and the maximum load recorded was only 3,320 MW,” the official said.
