UDF plans series of agitations

Protests against LDF policies

Chennithala to observe fast today

KPCC seeks judicial probe into land deal

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president Ramesh Chennithala said here on Monday that his 24-hour fast beginning Tuesday would be the first of a series of agitations planned by the Congress and the UDF against the anti-people policies of the LDF government.

He said the LDF government had failed to address major issues affecting the common man. The failure to control the rise in prices proved the Government’s ineptitude. Prices of essential commodities had gone up after the LDF assumed office. The Government’s proclamations were not supplemented by concrete action that would bring relief to the people. The Government was turning a blind eye to the price rise and accusing the Centre for its lapses, he said.

The hunger stir will begin at 9 a.m. in front of the Secretariat on Tuesday and will conclude at 9 a.m. the next day. Congressmen in all panchayats across the State, except Thiruvananthapuram, would stage demonstrations and public meeting at the local level to highlight the Government’s all-round failure, he said.

‘VS’ role suspect’

Staff Reporter writes from Thrissur: Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president Ramesh Chennithala has said the role of Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan in the HMT land deal is suspect. Mr. Chennithala told mediapersons here on Monday that the Chief Minister was trying to wash his hands of the deal. “The Industries and Revenue Ministers should resign from their posts. The KPCC has demanded a judicial investigation into the deal,” he said.

He said the Opposition would act against any move to destroy the Kerala Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (Milma).
