Another elderly woman murdered CRIME NOTES

BANGALORE: A day after an elderly woman was killed in the Ulsoor Gate police limits, a 60-year-old woman, Chowdamma, who was also staying alone, was found murdered in Garepalya in Ramanagaram district on Sunday.

According to police, Chowdamma was running a small brick kiln.

She had employed a few men to work in the kiln. Her four daughters were married and were staying in Bangalore.

On Saturday, a person entered her house and hit her on the head with a rod, killing her, the police said. Her gold bangles and earrings were missing. Chowdamma’s neighbour, Lakshmamma, noticed the body and called the police.

Superintendent of Police, Ramanagaram, H.S. Revanna said, “We have clues about the accused.”

Suicide

A couple, who were admitted with burns, died in Victoria Hospital on Sunday. According to the police, the 28-year-old Shanti set herself ablaze in her house in Peenya on February 1. Consumed by fire, she hugged her husband Palani. Both were admitted to Victoria Hospital.

While Shanti died on Saturday, Palani died on Sunday, the police said.

In another incident, Manjula (29), committed suicide in Mahadevapura on Sunday. The police said Manjula was found hanging from the ceiling of her house.

Manjula’s parents have filed a complaint against their son-in-law Devaraj and said he used to harass their daughter for dowry. The police are on the lookout for Devaraj.

Two killed

Two persons on a motorcycle were killed when the vehicle was hit by a lorry near Shivaprasad Hotel, off Poona-Bangalore Highway in Peenya on Monday.

The police said Devarajan (20) and G.N. Kumar (22), residents of Dasarahalli, were killed on the spot. The police have seized the lorry, which the driver had abandoned.

A 45-year-old disabled man was killed when he was hit by a vehicle near Mutturayaswamy Temple, off Mysore Road on Sunday. The man is said to have died on the spot. The Jnanabharati police have registered a case.

Murdered

A woman was allegedly murdered by her husband in their home in Kashinagar, coming under Kumaraswamy Layout police station limits on Monday.

The police gave the name of the victim as Gowramma. The accused is Thimmappa (32), a lorry driver.

The police said that Thimmappa had a drinking problem and used to quarrel with Gowramma.

On Monday, Thimmappa is said to have strangled his wife with her sari. He has been arrested and a case has been registered.
