BANGALORE: Federation of Karnataka Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FKCCI) has demanded abolition of entry tax and show tax on cinema owners. In a memorandum submitted to S. Krishna Kumar, adviser to Governor Rameshwar Thakur here on Monday, FKCCI president S.S. Patil said only in Karnataka entry tax has been imposed on readymade garments. No other State has imposed such tax on garments. The Government should take steps to cut by five per cent stamp duty on registration of property to improve compliance and bring in more revenue, he said. Mr. Krishna Kumar held a pre-budget meeting with officials of the Finance Department at the Secretariat and discussed various issues related to expenditure and revenue. Mr. Patil said the Government should take steps to computerise check-posts and provide all facilities to verify documents. The exemption limit of professional tax on employees should be raised up to Rs. 10,000 a month. FKCCI urged the Government to take steps to improve road, railway and airport connectivity in the State. The work on doubling of Bangalore-Mysore railway line and Hubli-Ankola line should be speeded up, it said. Its other demands included stamp duty exemption for sale and purchase of industrial sheds and land and scrapping of the recently amended Agricultural Produce Marketing Committee Act. It suggested that the Karnataka State Pollution Control Board should be allowed to levy pollution cess on the effluents discharged.
