Thiruvananthapuram
Thiruvananthapuram: InApp, a Technopark-based software services company, is setting up India’s first JBoss Center of Excellence (JBoCE) here. The centre will provide expertise to consultants, developers, technicians and trainers, directed primarily at the Asia-Pacific and U.S. markets. JBoss is an application server. Such servers are the key middleware that serves as platforms for enterprise computing, especially for large-scale applications, such as e-governance, web-based enterprise resource planning (ERP) and large public web sites. Open sourceAs a “professional open source” product, JBoss claims many unique features that contribute to faster application development, more maintainable code and high scalability in comparison to its proprietary rivals. The company asserts that JBoss enterprise applications are more cost-effective than those of competing middleware. A press note here said JBoss would be ideal for States such as Kerala whose information technology policy sought to promote free and open-source software (FOSS). It was particularly suited for e-governance applications. By launching the JBoss Center of Excellence, InApp — a Red Hat partner and pioneer in the spread of open-source technologies in India — hopes to stimulate the development of more enterprise-level applications on open-source platforms. The centre will recruit and train professionals to create a pool of manpower which can take on the development and maintenance of JBoss applications in India as well the rest of Asia-Pacific. It is expected that the availability of trained JBoss professionals will further increase penetration of this enterprise middleware. Since enterprise-class applications operate at the higher end of the value chain, the centre will help in developing local human resources. S. Satyamoorthy, principal JBoss evangelist, Asia-Pacific, and head of the JBoss Division of Red Hat India, will inaugurate the centre on InApp’s Technopark premises on Friday.
