Kids in their innocent settings
Siblings: A photo by Sarvesh whose exhibition ‘Children in Times of Flux’ opens in New Delhi.
A weeklong exhibition of photographs titled “Children in Times of Flux” by Sarvesh opens at India International Centre Annexe in the Capital on Wednesday. It will be inaugurated by well-known cartoonist and painter Aabid Surti.
The exhibition will portray children from all classes of society undergoing a rapid change.
It is part of a series of similarly themed events by Sarvesh; the photographer had in 2001 held a widely acclaimed exhibition on marginalised women titled “Women in Times of Flux”.
The latest show is reflective of her commitment to the lens and locates children in their innocent settings in a fast changing world. Sarvesh’s camera brings out the contradictions, the class divide and the social fabric of present-day Indian society. One of the few women photographers in the country, Sarvesh’s creations have been published in all major newspapers and magazines of the country. Widely travelled, her sensitivity is portrayed through her photographs that range from orphans, victims of terrorism, the urban and rural divide, children in various activities and several other images that will remain in memory for a long time. Her lens pans the urban and rural landscape alike and captures children from all walks of life.
