Assurances panel inspects sites

Staff Reporter

Krishnagiri: Members of Assurances Committee of the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly on Monday visited Hosur and had a discussion with officials concerned with regard to the construction of a state-of-the-art new bus stand for the industrial town.

The committee led by chairman T. Velmurugan enquired about the plan for the proposed bus stand. Collector Santhosh Babu and officials from the Public Works Department explained about the proposal to the committee.

The committee members also visited the District Livestock Farm at Mathigiri near here.

The chairman noted that there remained huge scope for developing the area under public-private partnership.

The members also visited the Kelavarapalli dam. Officials alleged that the release of untreated sewage from Bangalore city into Tamil Nadu was the main reason for contamination.

The committee would recommend the State Government to ask Karnataka to treat the sewage water before letting it into the Thenpennaiar River.

It would also recommend the Government to set up a fruit-processing unit for mango pulp in Kaveripattinam. The team also inspected the Rural Business Process Outsourcing unit-cum-Call centre at Chanachandiram and Tanflora Floriculture Development Park at Amudhagondapalli. The committee would recommend the Government to set up rural call centres in other districts to generate employment.

Maternity block

The committee inspected the progress of construction of maternity block, outpatient ward and additional buildings in the Krishnagiri Government Hospital. They interacted with patients in the hospital.

They held a detailed discussion with the officials later in the evening. The other members of the committee included Anbil Periyasamy, K.S. Izhavazhagan, S. Gunasekaran and A. Soundarapandian.
