Police arrest CPI (M) cadres at Tirupattur

Staff Reporter

TIRUPATTUR: About 50 CPI (M) cadres were arrested for staging a protest condemning the State Government for not taking steps to control the hike in prices of essential commodities here on Tuesday.

The cadres protested outside the Tirupattur Taluk Office and it was organised without prior permission from the police.

As a result, the protesting cadres were immediately arrested. The arrested cadres who were lodged in a marriage hall were released in the evening.

The protestors demanded that the State Government should speed up the process of allocating 2-acre land to the landless farmers.

The government should also make provisions to hand over free house pattas to all the downtrodden people.

Among the other demands include the government announced welfare schemes should reach the beneficiaries at the grass-root level and that untouchability should be completely wiped out from the State.
