BANGALORE: The Karnataka High Court has reserved the verdict on the acquisition of land for the much-hyped Apparel (integrated textile) Park that is coming up near Doddaballapur, near Bangalore. The court was dealing with a petition by Jamuna and others questioning the legality and validity of acquisition of their lands in Bashetti village in Kasaba hobli by the Karnataka Industrial Areas Development Aboard (KIADB). In their petitions, Jamuna and others said they owned agricultural land in the village. The KIADB, she said, on February 22, 2005, had issued a notification acquiring her land for setting up an integrated textile park. She urged the court to quash the notification. On its part, the authorities said the project would directly and indirectly benefit 5,000 people and boost export of silk, saris and other textile products. It said the project was sanctioned on August 1, 2005, under the STIP Scheme and it was estimated to cost Rs. 57.39 crore. It said the park aimed at creating a special purpose vehicle (SPV) for small power loom weavers in and around the area and also to provide high technology facilities to the artisans. Justice Ashok B. Hinchigeri reserved orders on the petition.
