This Day That Age
Dr. Ho Chi-minh, President of the Democratic Republic of Viet Nam, who arrived in New Delhi on February 5, will be in India for ten days. Dr. Ho in a brief speech at the airport thanked the people of India for the “hearty and impressive welcome” given to him and paid a tribute to the “valuable contribution made by India to the cause of peace in Asia and the world,” and the “important role she is playing in the world stage to-day.” He expressed the hope that his present visit would not only strengthen the bonds of friendship and cooperation between the two countries, but also contribute to the strengthening of solidarity among Asian-African countries. A ceremonial reception, befitting the head of a friendly state, was accorded to the President of the Democratic Republic of Viet Nam as he stepped out of the Indian Airlines Viscount which was escorted by eight Vampire jets. A 21-gun salute was fired and a guard of honour was presented by a detachment of the three Services.
