ANANTAPUR: Sub-Inspector of Police of Kundurpi in Vemanarayana district was caught red-handed by the sleuths of Anti-Corruption Bureau in the mandal headquarters village on Tuesday while he was allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs. 5,000 from a Dalit for registering a case. He was immediately taken into custody, even though he tried to give a slip to the ACB by attempting to flee. He would be produced in the ACB court later. According to DSP of ACB R. Venganna one G. Subbarayudu of Malayanur in Kundurpi mandal, a Dalit, was sanctioned a house site and the government had sanctioned a house for him. He also approached the RDT and the latter offered to construct a house for him with the contribution from government and from itself. But, one B. Gopi served notices on Subbarayudu and five others claiming that the site on which they were constructing houses had in fact belonged to him, stating that it was patta land owned by his family. On November 29, 2007 Gopi, his father Narayana and mother Chandramma went to SC Colony in the village and entered into an argument over the site with Subbarayudu. The three had allegedly caught hold of Subbarayudu and beat him. Subbarayudu went to the police station and lodge a complaint. The SI allegedly asked a bribe of Rs. 6,000 for registering a case under the SC, ST Atrocities Act. Vexed with the SI’s attitude Subbaryudu had approached the ACB and a team led by the DSP, CI A. Bhaskar and others caught the SI red-handed while he was accepting the bribe of Rs. 5,000 from Subbarayudu on Tuesday in Kudurpi. The SI tried to push the ACB CI and flee the place after throwing the amount on the ground on finding the presence of ACB sleuths, but was chased and caught by the team. They also seized the amount.
