190 cell phone towers in Madurai SSA

THENI: Multiply broadband facility would be introduced in 71 places within Madurai Secondary Switching Area, including nine places in Theni district, to offer its customers video and audio services along with internet facility, according to V.A. Sanjeevi, General Manager, BSNL, Madurai.

He was addressing an open house session, a meeting between BSNL and its customers held here on Tuesday evening.

He said equipment installation was over in most places. It will be an additional facility for customers.

Multiply broadband facility would be given in Chinnamanur, Cumbum, Bodinayakkanur, Theni, Palanichettipatti, Periakulam, Andipatti and two others places in the district.

A total 112 new customers will avail of this facility in Theni town.

Broadband facility will be first given to customers. Multiply facilities would be extended later.

The BSNL has also plans to commission 190 cell phone towers in Madurai SSA to expand coverage area.

At present, the towers were being commissioned with an aim of covering villages with a population of around 2,000.

“We have plans to bring even small hamlets that have only 1,000 population under mobile phone coverage,” he added.

“The ultimate aim is to offer phone connectivity to all people including those in remote villages.”

The General Manager also solved six-month-old grievances of a rural customer on the spot.

The telephone of Palanisamy of Veerachinnammalpuram did not function for the past six months, but the BSNL was regular in sending bills.

Despite repeated complaints and appeals, the problem was not rectified. On hearing his complaint at the session, Mr. Sanjeevi ordered officials to repay the bills paid by the subscriber and resume service within four days.

In a lighter vein, the GM commented that the poor turnout was due to absence of grievances.
