Congress activists demonstrating against Raj Thackeray’s remarks on North Indians, at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi on Tuesday. NEW DELHI: Protesting against Maharashtra Navnirman Sena leader Raj Thackeray’s utterances that led to attacks on North Indians in Mumbai, Congress MLA Mahabal Mishra on Tuesday announced that demonstrations would be held in all 70 Assembly constituencies in the Capital beginning Wednesday. Mr. Mishra made the announcement during a protest demonstration at Jantar Mantar here organised by the Poorvanchal Cell of the Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee. The protesters burnt an effigy of Mr. Raj Thackeray. “Supporters of Raj Thackeray beat up people from North India residing and working in Mumbai in broad daylight. By making fun of Chhath Puja, the Navnirman Sena president has hurt the religious sentiments of a large number of people. The attack on Bhojpuri films in the State is an assault on the unity of the country,” he said. Seeking intervention of the Union Government in the matter, Mr. Mishra said the Navnirman Sena should be de-barred as a political outfit and Mr. Thackeray arrested for creating communal disturbances. “North Indians have played a vital role in making Mumbai the commercial Capital of the country. Raj Thackeray has endangered the unity of the country through his utterances. Every citizen has the right to settle down anywhere to receive education, do business and take up employment,” Mr. Mishra asserted.
