Maintenance grants: plea dismissed

BANGALORE: The Karnataka High Court has dismissed a petition by the Dakshina Kannada Jilla Anudhanita Shalegala Adalithagarara Sangha and several educational institutions challenging the Government’s decision to discontinue maintenance grants to aided educational institutions.

Opposing the petitions, the Government said it had taken a policy decision to discontinue maintenance grants. Instead, aided educational institutions were now permitted to charge Rs. 500 as development fee from each student in a year.

Justice B.S. Patil accepted the Government’s contention and dismissed the petition. — Staff Reporter
