Only loyalists should contest elections: Murthy

Staff Reporter

‘Newcomers must not be considered’

‘Newcomers must work for three years at least’

S.M. Krishna should come to Karnataka: Murthy

BANGALORE: The Market and Mass Contact Programme Wing of the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee has appealed to the party high command not to allow newcomers to contest the elections. If the newcomers are given a ticket it will be an injustice to the loyal workers who have been striving hard for the party for years.

Addressing presspersons here on Monday, L.N. Murthy, coordinator of the wing, said that loyalists and senior party workers should be considered while choosing candidates for the Legislative Assembly elections and also during reconstitution of the Congress committee.

Newcomers should work for at least three years before being given positions of responsibility in the party, Mr. Murthy said.

He appealed to Prithviraj Chavan, All India Congress Committee in-charge of Karnataka, to tour all the 224 constituencies and ascertain the feedback and submit a report to the AICC President Sonia Gandhi. He urged all the Union Ministers from the State to strive for the party’s success in their respective districts and take party workers into confidence before the election.

Ensuring a win

Mr. Murthy said that the Governor of Maharashtra S.M. Krishna should submit his resignation and come to Karnataka to strengthen the hands of KPCC president Mallikarjuna Kharge. This would ensure that the Congress wins the coming elections with absolute majority in the State, he said.

L.R. Ananth, general secretary of the wing spoke on the occasion.
