Washington: India and the U.S. cannot be “allies in the traditional military sense” and are more of “strategic partners” given their cooperation in diverse areas, said Ronen Sen, Ambassador to the U.S. Mr. Sen hailed the Indo-U.S. nuclear deal as the “most outstanding symbol” of the new relationship between the two countries as well as of India’s “new standing in the world.” Mr. Sen made these remarks while speaking at the annual meeting of the Board of Directors and the Council of the Woodrow Wilson Centre. Civil nuclear cooperation was one of the few issues on which there was “complete agreement” among the U.S., Russia, Europe and other countries. He said defence ties with Washington were “an important facet of their relationship.” — PTI
