Visibility reduced to zero in two States Flights cancelled, trains rescheduled
Fun and joy: Tourists enjoying pony rides in Kufri after a heavy snowfall on Tuesday. Chandigarh: A thick blanket of fog on Tuesday engulfed most places in Punjab and Haryana disrupting normal life and affecting some flights. Though the minimum temperature witnessed further increase at some places in the region, but maximum temperatures fell sharply. It was for the first time the fog reduced visibility to zero in the two States, the Met department said here. The arrival of some flights, including the Jet Airways flight from Mumbai, to this city was also affected. Birmingham-Amritsar flight had to be diverted to Delhi due to foggy weather in Amritsar, where another Air Deccan flight from Delhi could not arrive due to bad weather. Foggy conditions in Chandigarh forced cancellation of some afternoon flights including the two of Jet Airways to Delhi. The schedule of some long distance trains coming to various destinations in Punjab and Haryana was also affected due to foggy weather. Chandigarh recorded a high of 12.8 degrees Celsius, at Ambala it was 12 C, Karnal 12.6 C, Amritsar 14.6 C, Patiala 12.7 C and Shimla 8.4 C. Icy windsIcy winds intensified in entire Rajasthan with mercury dipped to sub-zero level in the sole hill resort Mount Abu. Mount Abu continued to reel under intense cold wave conditions as mercury plummeted to minus one degree Celsius and the upper layers of Nakki lake froze for few hours in the morning. PTI
