REAL efforts for uplifting the weak

REAL was organized in 1989 by a handful of enthusiastic, energetic youth of rural origin to liberate the vulnerable, exploited, oppressed communities of their own in Villupuram District. As an initial attempt, they promoted non-formal literacy programme in and around Ennayiram village and adapted 7 villages in Vikravandy block.

The rural children were facilitated with various development dimensions likely Child Care Centres, Child Activity Centres, Promotion of Child Rights, Non-Residential Bridge Centres, Supplementary Education Centres, Community Library and Media Development (Amazing Kids).

REAL promoted savings among for the economic need and assistance by forming 1054 groups benefiting 19,873 members in Cuddalore district and 162 groups benefiting 3105 members in Villupuram District. Now, they have their savings of Rs.6,71,16,200/- in both the districts.

The federation having envisaged in more economic development activities, micro finance entrepreneurships, they initiated two milk chilling units in Villupuram District at Ennayiram and Koonimedu with a capacity of 2000 litres each.

Micro Finance Activities:

The seed of savings among the women have paved room for their sustainable livelihood development. The savings groups have been formed as federation in two districts and is solely governed by the nominated representatives. It was deep rooted foundation which allows opportunities by utilizing the savings of the members and mobilizing the financial resources from the national local banks and donor agencies within the country and abroad towards rural housing (semi, pucca). Goat Rearing, Rearing of Dairy Animals, Mushroom and Fodder cultivation, kitchen garden, petty trades, production of edible articles, production of by-products (Shoe Upper Making, Knitting, Weaving, Coir Manufacture, Coconut Leaf Knitting), retail business (Textiles, other house hold utility commodities) etc.
