THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The new Kerala Institute of Cooperative Management (KICMA) at Neyyar Dam, near here, will admit 20 students in its first MBA batch. Cooperation Minister G. Sudhakaran will inaugurate the MBA block at a function on the institute premises at 5 p.m. on Thursday. Communist Party of India (Marxist) State secretary Pinarayi Vijayan will inaugurate the computer laboratory. Deputy Leader of the Opposition G. Karthikeyan will open the library. E. Narayanan, Chairman of Kerala State Cooperative Union, which runs the college, told presspersons here on Tuesday that the fee would be slightly higher than that in government colleges, but much lesser than that in self-financing colleges. The institute, affiliated to the University of Kerala, aimed at providing management education to all sections of students at affordable rates. Work on the buildings to house the MCA block and a training centre for employees and those working in the cooperative sector would be inaugurated within three months. The motto, he said, is to offer quality professional education at affordable rates. The institute will have facilities to train chief executives and employees of cooperative institutions for enhancing their managerial skills. Leadership training programmes will be conducted for those working in the cooperative movement. A detailed plan has been worked out for conducting various training programmes. The institute will have a placement cell. As many as 2,500 students are studying in the 13 cooperative training colleges and nine training centres being run by the union. It has been proposed to conduct a cooperative youth festival for these students and the Cooperative Minister’s ever-rolling Trophy will be presented to those scoring the highest number of points. Arrangements for conducting the festival are nearing completion, he said. The union is planning to conduct an exhibition of cooperative societies in Palakkad in April to help them market their wares.
