Anna University-Coimbatore Vice-Chancellor R. Radhakrishnan (left) launching Wi-Fi network at the Gnanamani College of Technology in Namakkal on Wednesday. – NAMAKKAL: Anna University-Coimbatore will introduce Digital Evaluation System for correcting the answer scripts of students within May this year, its Vice-Chancellor R. Radhakrishnan has said. Launching the Wi-Fi Network at the Gnanamani College of Technology here on Wednesday, he said that the university would collect all the answer scripts after conducting examinations, scan them at the zonal centres and store in the Central database. The evaluators would be allowed to correct the digitally-available answer scripts at their respective workplace itself. Each answer script would be subjected to evaluation twice. If differences were found in the marks awarded during the two evaluations, the scripts would be taken for evaluation third time. Biometric technologyThe university would use biometric technology and advanced software tools for the new system to prevent malpractices during the evaluation process. The primary objective of this initiative is to speed up the evaluation process and reduce the logistic cost. The system enables the preservation of answer scripts for a long time. The re-valuation process will be made easy after the introduction of the system. If students made a request to see their answer scripts, the varsity will e-mail the scripts to them, Mr. Radhakrishnan explained. The new system is under development and will be introduced within May this year, he added. The Vice-Chancellor said that Anna University-Coimbatore had introduced grades on a nine-point scale based on the instructions from the University Grants Commission. On-line examinationThe online-examination system for the post-graduate courses would begin from the coming academic year. The university will bring in more innovative techniques to enhance the learning and teaching process in the future, he assured. He also inaugurated the Students Chapter of Indian Society for Technical Education, National Service Scheme unit, Youth Red Cross unit and a blood donation camp in the college. College chairman T. Arangannal, Chairperson P. Malaleena and College principal T. Chelladurai spoke.
