Maiden visit: Vice-President Hamid Ansari reviewing the guard of honour soon after his arrival in Hyderabad on Wednesday. HYDERABAD: Vice-President Hamid Ansari arrived here on Wednesday a two-day visit. He was received at the airport by Governor N.D. Tiwari, Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, his Cabinet colleagues, Speaker K.R. Suresh Reddy and several MPs and MLAs. Mr. Ansari was given a guard of honour and introduced to the visitors before he left for the Raj Bhavan. The Vice-President will inaugurate the 5th International Conference of Bio-Asia at the Hyderabad International Convention Centre and address a meeting at Dairatul Maarif, a storehouse of ancient Arabic manuscripts, on Osmania University campus. YSR calls on AnsariAn official press release said the Chief Minister later called on the Vice-President and explained the developmental and welfare programmes of the State Government at their meeting. A special mention was made about the irrigation projects, housing programme and the reservation policy for minorities. Dr. Reddy said that the Government had to overcome several legal hurdles to extend reservations to minorities, a benefit provided nowhere else in the country. Over 4,700 Muslim students were admitted to medical, dental, engineering and other professional courses in the reserved quota during 2007-08.
