Bhagidari monitoring system launched

Staff Reporter

A sum of Rs.50 lakh allocated to each revenue district

RWAs can avail the fund for various projects

Fund will be under the control of DCs

NEW DELHI: Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit launched a Bhagidari monitoring system and a “My Delhi I Care Fund” at the Secretariat here on Wednesday.

Explaining the reasons for the launch, Ms. Dikshit said “it would help in streamlining the Bhagidari redress and monitoring mechanism and strengthening the faith of citizen groups in the movement”.

The Chief Minister, who interacted with the Bhagidars present at the district offices to redress their problems and grievances, said “My Delhi I Care Fund” had been created with the Deputy Commissioners (Revenue) of the nine districts to involve citizens in the upkeep and protection of their own habitat through partnership with the Government.

The fund, she said, was aimed at attracting citizen groups registered under the Bhagidari scheme of the Delhi Government to contribute in various micro-projects and maintenance works, designed to improve their immediate environment.

Under the fund, a sum of Rs.50 lakh has been allocated to each revenue district of Delhi, to be kept under the control of the Deputy Commissioner (Revenue), she said.

Through this fund, the Chief Minister said, residents’ welfare associations can take up tree plantation, development of water bodies, creation of recreational facilities for senior citizens (indoor games, TV sets, newspapers, space for interaction), establishing public libraries and book banks, provision of signage inside colonies and markets, protection of vacant public land in the colony, establishment of children’s activity centre and benches in public parks.

Also the fund can be used for beautification of colony parks, roundabouts and traffic intersections, establishment of gymnasium and recreational facilities at community centres, maintenance of sewer lines, construction and improvement of storm water drains, maintenance of gardens and streetlights, improvement and up-gradation of market places, and construction or maintenance of urinals, public conveniences, dhalaos, sanitation bins, footpaths and boundary walls among other things.
