Janapada Lokotsava from tomorrow

The objective is to promote folk arts and culture


BANGALORE: The Karnataka Janapada Parishat will hold a three-day Janapada Lokotsava 2008 from Friday at Janapada Loka near Ramanagaram on Bangalore-Mysore Road in association with the Department of Tourism and the Department of Kannada and Culture.

The parishat president and the former Mayor, G. Narayana, told presspersons here on Tuesday that the objective of the event was to promote and propagate folk arts and culture.

Exhibition and sales of folk artefact, handicraft and food would mark the Lokotsava. Over a 1,000 folk artistes from across the State would participate in the event. Besides many folk artistes from the neighbouring Sates would showcase their talent, he added.

Tourism and Kannada and Culture Secretary I.M. Vittala Murthy would inaugurate the event. Union Minister of State for Planning M.V. Rajasekharan would participate in the valediction, Mr. Narayana said.
