Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala will ask Tamil Nadu to release more water under the Parambikulam-Aliyar Project agreement into the Kerala Sholayar to ensure availability of adequate water for agricultural purposes. A decision to this effect was taken at a high level meeting on Wednesday convened by Water Resources Minister N.K. Premachandran to discuss steps for making the distribution of water through the Edmalayar irrigation project and the Chalakudy river diversion scheme effective. It also recommended the increase of power generation from the Kerala Sholayar in order to ensure the release of 1.5 MCM of water per day along the canal during the coming two weeks.
