Letters to the Editor
I thank The Hindu for carrying the obituary “R.K. Karanjia: Living through the Blitz (Feb. 6) — a long, fascinating and matter-of-fact piece written by his deputy. I was one of Karanjia’s aficionados. As the most popular writer of his times endowed with rapid thinking and sound reasoning, he wrote with elegance and ease. It is rare to come across a bold and fearless writer like him. J. Eden Alexander, Thanjavur * * * No Blitz reader can forget its revolutionary slogan — Free, Frank & Fearless. Karanjia was truly an accessible editor. The description of the author’s meeting with him in the hospital was touching. R. Sethumadhavan, Chennai * * * The obituary was both soul-stirring and amusing like the pungent yet powerful writings in Blitz. My English teacher introduced me to the paper by presenting me some back issues. The greatest tribute that one can pay to Karanjia was the sentence: “To know this man was to love him.” Col C.V. Venugopalan (retd.), Palakkad * * * The Blitz column “I Don’t Know Son” was satirical to the hilt. Karanjia knew the art of selling “reality,” as perceived by him, by mixing sugar and spice.
