Madurai: Assam rallied to beat Andaman Nicobar 3-2 for its third win in the last match of the four-team Cluster ‘G’ and qualified for the quarterfinal league in the 17th youth (under-21) National football championship for the Dutta Roy Trophy here on Wednesday. Baljit scores hat-trickPunjab scored another big 9-1 victory over Gujarat for its second win in the three-team cluster ‘C’ and entered the quarterfinal league. Baljit Singh netted a hat-trick for the winner. Somnath Chakraborty scored a brace as Bengal beat Haryana 2-0 for its second win in the three-team Cluster ‘D’ and qualified for the quarterfinal league. Maharashtra coasted to a 3-0 victory over Manipur in the last match of the four-team Cluster ‘F’ to top the table with 7 points and made it to the quarterfinal league. The preliminary league matches are over and the eight teams qualified for the quarterfinal league have been divided into two groups. Thursday is a rest day. The results: Cluster ‘C’: Punjab 9 (Baljit Singh 3-hat-trick, Halal Mumzira 2, Lalchvan Mawia 2, Gagpreet Singh, Gurmandir Singh) bt Gujarat 1 (Hasmukh Thakor). Cluster ‘D’: Bengal 2 (Somanath Chakraborty 2) bt Haryana 0. Cluster ‘F’: Delhi 2 (Manish Negi, Amitrawat) bt Bihar 0; Maharashtra 3 (Craig D’Sarza 2, Ansari Tarique) bt Manipur 0. Cluster ‘G’: Assam 3 (Sibra Narzany, Jibeswar Boro, Dighnta Barua) bt Andaman Nicobar 2 (Wellington, Benjamin); Jammu and Kashmir 2 (Vishal Bhandal, Irfan Shafi) bt Jharkhand 1 (Sashi Raj Karua). Quarterfinal league: Group I: Tamil Nadu, Punjab, Bengal, Mizoram. Group II: Goa, Kerala, Maharashtra, Assam.
