PUDUKOTTAI: Work on the construction of the Marine Police Station in Manamelkudi, a coastal village about 70 km from here, has been in full swing. The station will have modernised facilities including separate lock-ups from men and women; VHF chamber; computer room and retiring room. This is one of the two stations under construction on a plinth area of about 2,400 sq. feet at an estimate of about Rs.25 lakh, the other one being at Tiruppunavasal. The Deputy Superintendent of Police, Pattukottai, S. Amsavalli, told The Hindu at Manamelkudi on Tuesday that similar stations have also been sanctioned for Thanjavur district, Sedubavachathiram and Adhiramapattinam. She also said that four more marine check-posts would come up in the coastal parts of Karakottai, Idayathimangalam, Vichoor and Semakottai (all in Pudukottai district) and Karankuda in Thanjavur district. Out-posts
This apart, four marine out-posts would be constructed at Sedhubavachathiram; Adhiramapattinam- Eripurakarai; Kottaipattinam and Muthukuda. Out-posts would be provided with boat and other infrastructure for ensuring surveillance. Coastal surveillance would be taken up after the works on the construction of marine outposts are completed, Ms. Amsavalli added.
