People are living under the shadow of fear, says former MLA Sirsi: Former MLA Vishweshwar Hegde Kageri has urged the Government to strengthen intelligence and police force in view of the reports of terrorists’ presence in Uttara Kannada district. He said that the people were living under the shadow of fear. Addressing pressperson here on Wednesday, he said if the intelligence and the police personnel continued to be negligent, dilapidated historical places and thick forests in the district could become centres of training for terrorists. There could be a threat to Sea Bird naval project, Kaiga nuclear power plant and hydro electricity power stations if security was not stepped up in the district, he said. UPA blamedMr. Kageri alleged that the United Progressive Alliance Government was responsible for the increased terrorist activities in the country as it had repealed the Prevention of Terrorism Act (POTA). It was appeasing Muslims for creating a vote bank, he added. Development worksDevelopment works in the State was suffering as the Governor was functioning at the behest of Congress leaders, he charged. Drinking water projects and road repairs had been neglected in the State, Mr. Kageri added. Bharatiya Janata Party workers such as Sriram Naik, R.D. Hegde and G.M. Naik were present.
