‘Rs 112.52 crore spent on providing direct employment to 4.32 lakh persons’ Rs. 500 per family under the nutrition linked employment guarantee scheme Sangareddy: Medak District Water Management Agency (DWMA) has prepared an action plans for providing employment to one lakh families in the district during the next four months through the Andhra Pradesh Rural Employment Guarantee Programme. According to a press release by the Collector B. Venkatesam on the occasion of completion of two years of its implementation, Medak district stood at the fourth position in the State in the successful implementation of the employment guarantee programme. The Collector informed that so far Rs 112.52 crore has been spent on providing direct employment to 4.32 lakh persons belonging to 2.94 families. Out of the money spent Rs 93.69 crore has gone in the shape of wages. The district has plans to take up fruit plantations in 28,899 acres of land in the district with a view to encourage horticulture in the government assigned lands under the Integrated Land Development Programme. The money required for the development of assigned land would be disbursed from the employment guarantee funds and Rs. 12,000 would be spent on each acre for development. In order to provide nutritious food to the poor labourers the district started a pilot project in Pulkal mandal where Rs. 60 has been paid in advance to the APREGP workers by the Village Samakhyas. The district aims at paying at least Rs. 500 per family under the nutrition linked employment guarantee scheme. The commodities would be made available to the beneficiaries in their respective villages only. MonitoringOn the monitoring area, the district has so far recovered Rs 1.72 lakh from the 40 employees who were found have misused APREGP funds. The plan also includes distribution of Smart cards to all the beneficiaries for easy deposit and withdrawal of the wages, leaving no chance for corruption. It was also decided to provide employment to the labourers only when there is no agricultural activity in the villages.
