Speaking to presspersons here on Wednesday, Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) R. Ramaseshan said the expenditure of printing, taking pictures and lamination would come to around Rs. 15 crore. With this, the total number of voters to have the cards would go up to three crore. He said that four vendors had been appointed to take up publicity throughout the State and they had been entrusted with the task of distributing the cards to one crore voters. Clarifying that it could be used only for identifying the person concerned, the CEO said that it would not automatically give the person the right to vote. For that, the person’s name had to be in the electoral rolls. Permanent residents, whose names were not included in the rolls, he said could contact the village accountant or the schoolteacher or any other government official, in charge of the booth concerned and submit the application in Form no. 6. They could also contact the Deputy Commissioner, Assistant Commissioner, tahsildar or officers in the corporations or municipalities concerned for guidance.
