Gwalior: Seeking to appropriate the Dalit cause in poll-bound Madhya Pradesh, LJP chief Ramvilas Paswan on Wednesday attacked Mayawati, accusing her of jettisoning the welfare of the backward community for the sake of power. “The elephant is now in the palace of king. Ms. Mayawati’s ‘bahujan samaj’ has become ‘sarvajan samaj’,” Mr. Paswan remarked launching the party’s election campaign in the State. He claimed the UP Chief Minister and BSP supremo has lost the support and trust of both backward and upper castes. “There is nothing new in Mayawati’s social engineering formula. Congress has ruled for years on the same formula,” Mr. Paswan said. Mr. Paswan, also Union Chemical and Fertiliser Minister, accused all political parties of neglecting the Dalit and backward classes for years and exploiting them for political benefits. “Dalits and backward classes have not got their due right yet,” he said, adding we will fight till we get justice. “Our party is working for the upliftment of the suppressed class,” he said addressing the ‘Samajik Jagran’ rally. Mr. Paswan announced that if his party came to power in , it would start a policy for girl children. PTI
