BHUBANESWAR: Thanks to the efforts of former students of the city-based B.K. College of Art and Crafts, a biggest art event of this capital city will be organised here next year. In a unique show of solidarity to celebrate the silver jubilee of this premiere art institution of the State, its past and present students along with the former and serving faculty members gathered on its premises here on Tuesday to chalk out a mammoth schedule for year-long celebrations. “The year-long celebrations will kick off in February next with a series of exhibitions, symposiums and art camps in the city,” secretary of the newly-formed Alumnae Association and faculty member Subrat Mallick told The Hindu. Funds from expos“Without waiting for the government to provide funds for celebration of this mega event, we will generate it by hosting some exhibitions in Delhi and Bhubaneswar,” revealed the Alumnae Association convener and New Delhi- based noted artist Jagannath Panda. A documentary film would be made on the institution that would be released on the occasion, added the association president and one of the acclaimed sculptors of the country Adwait Prasad Gadnayak, who is based in New Delhi. . The core committee of the silver jubilee celebration includes the college’s first principal, noted art historian and former secretary of the Central Lalit Kala Akademi Dinanath Pathy, Orissa Lalit Kala Akademi secretary and former principal Chandramani Biswal, former principal of the Government College of Art and Crafts, Khallikote D.N.Rao who was a former faculty member here and the present principal A.C. Sahoo. The Alumnae Association’s office will operate at the Orissa Modern Art Gallery at 132, Forest Park in Bhubaneswar and for further inquiry gallery director and association’s treasurer Tarakant Parida can be contacted on telephone number 0674-2595765.
