Health camp cancelled

Forced religious conversion alleged

BHUBANESWAR: Tension gripped the Salia Sahi, the largest slum of capital city on Wednesday after a few residents complained that attempts were being made to convert them into Christianity.

A health camp, which was organised to provide free medical advices by a voluntary organisation Utkal Asha, was to be cancelled after these residents agitated there.

“South Korean doctors who voluntarily assist the programme returned to their hotels after the fiasco,” Utkal Asha Regional Director Ajay Naik said.

Basant Pradhan, a resident of Salia Sahi, alleged films on Christianity had been shown to them for last one month and they were being counselled to embrace the religion.

With more people gathering at the health campsite, city police reached the spot and asked the organisers to disband the medical camp.
