TIRUCHI: The Department of Education is introducing technology-assisted projects in schools to make learning easier for students, Chief Educational Officer K. Swaminathan said. At the seminar on ‘Significance of technological innovations in the learning process’ at National College on Tuesday, Dr. Swaminathan suggested that the traditional chalk-and-talk method give way to active learning methodologies. “Obstacles transient”He urged parents to look into various aspects of their child’s learning in case of poor academic performance. Obstacles in education were only transient caused either by the environment or psychological barrier. Importance of English On knowledge of the English language, he said its importance had been understood by China, which sent its students to India to learn the language. New ways of instructing such as ‘team teaching,’ where two to three teachers handled the same subject, brainstorming methodology, in which students got to hone their problem-solving capabilities, language laboratories, and self-learning through educational CDs and internet had opened new horizons in school education. Language laboratories in schools helped the students to hone their pronunciation skills. The English Literary Association organised the seminar. Principal K. Anbarasu presided over and department head M. Sankaran spoke.
