Pay hike for transport staff

CHENNAI: Transport corporation employees in the State will get 12 per cent increase in pay with retrospective effect from September 1, 2007.
The agreement was signed between the management of transport corporations and various trade unions here on Wednesday.
Percentage basis
Transport Minister K.N. Nehru told newspersons that the minimum pay increase would be Rs.1,000 and the maximum would be Rs.2,124 a month for a worker.
The agreement would be in effect for three years. Dearness allowance would be paid once in three months on percentage basis.
The pay revision would cost the exchequer Rs.195 crore per annum.
According to an MTC official, all recognised trade unions signed the agreement later in the evening.
